Final Exam Policy Change

Dear Panthers,

As we approach the end of the trimester, we are continuously striving to embody the motto, "When we know better, we do better,". With that said, I want to share with you a significant change regarding our final exam policy that reflects this commitment to improvement and equity.

For some time, our school has allowed students to be exempt from final exams based on certain criteria, such as attendance, behavior, and academic performance. While well-intentioned, this practice has inadvertently created inequities among our student body and has not fully prepared our college-bound students for the rigorous assessments they will encounter in higher education.

In light of this, we have made the decision that moving forward, all students will be required to participate in final exams, without exceptions. This shift ensures that every student is afforded the same opportunities and challenges, fostering a more equitable learning environment. Additionally, it aligns with the demands of post-secondary institutions, where assessments are an integral and unavoidable part of the academic journey.

Understanding that this transition may be significant for many, we are committed to supporting our students through this change. Our teachers will be introducing course-level incentives for students who continue to excel in attendance, academic performance, and behavior, echoing the criteria of the previous exemption policy.

This policy update is a testament to our dedication to preparing all students for the realities of post secondary education.. We believe it is a necessary step in ensuring that our students are not only ready for the challenges of whatever comes after high school but are also equipped to excel in them.

We recognize that this is a considerable change and appreciate your understanding and support as we implement this new practice. Together, we can make this transition smooth and successful, furthering our shared goal of excellence in education for every student.

With Panther Pride,

Mr. Thornton
